Grapefruit Elderflower Gin Cocktail with fizzy Ginger Kombucha

This cocktail was inspired by the grapefruit martini I enjoyed at Nobu Bahamas recently.  Since I tend to steer away from overly sweet cocktails, I simply love the bitter & sweetness of grapefruit juice as a vehicle to transport gin or vodka into my mouth. The elderflower liqueur adds a floral complexity and also will make you appear 1000% more sophisticated if you make this for your friends. I added ginger kombucha to the recipe because, you know, gut health and all that ;)  But if you don't have kombucha on hand, you can substitute soda water for that fizzy satisfaction. Recipe is per serving.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz gin, we usually stock Hendricks or Tanqueray

1 oz St. Germain elderflower liqueur

3 oz freshly squeezed grapefruit juice

1 oz freshly squeezed lime juice

2 oz ginger kombucha (or you can sub soda water for fizz, if you do not have kombusha)

1/2 tsp sugar (more or less to your taste)

mint leaves

Method:

1. Add sugar and 2-3 mint leaves to your cocktail shaker and muddle by giving it 3-4 gentle twists. Add a few ice cubes and all of the remaining ingredients except for the kombucha (or soda water if using).  Shake with vigor!

2. Strain into serving glass (with or without fresh ice cubes, that's optional), top with kombucha (or soda water).  Garnish with mint leaves and enjoy!
